The daily importance of sunscreen

The daily importance of sunscreen

If you think you only need to worry about wearing sunscreen while you’re at the beach, hike, or run, think again.

The truth is it is equally, if not more, important to wear sunscreen while indoors, out running day-today errands, driving in your car, working from home on your computer (blue light), and on cooler days when applying SPF is the last thing on your mind.

When buying a daily sunscreen, it is important to look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen as it protects you against both UVA + UVB radiation. UVA radiation can cause premature skin ageing, leading to lines and wrinkles and even age spots. UVB radiation has a higher energy output and can cause redness, inflammation and even lead to sunburn. New research shows Blue light emitted from electronic devices like your TV, smartphone, tablets, and laptop can be just as damaging, if not more than UV radiation and is said to further contribute to premature skin aging and skin discoloration. Experts recommended using a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30.

It is important to apply a generous amount of sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure and ensure to apply to all sun exposed areas, such as the face, neck, chest, ears and arms and legs when applicable.

Dermalogica offers a range of daylight defense products that work harder than simply protecting your skin against the UV radiation. Here’s a list of our favorites to help you find your best daily sunscreen.
